Distance Vision Lenses

These lenses help our Scottsdale, Mesa, and Phoenix cataract surgery patients achieve clear distance vision without glasses.

Cataract Surgery

For most Phoenix cataract patients, surgery offers the potential for clear distance vision without glasses. However, not everyone can achieve this outcome with the standard lens covered by insurance. Below, we highlight premium lens upgrades that more consistently provide clear distance vision.

Please note that these lenses do not correct near vision, so reading glasses will still be necessary. If you want to see clearly both up close and far away, please visit Near and Distance Lenses.

Routine Cataract Surgery with a Standard Monofocal Lens

If you have minimal astigmatism, routine cataract surgery with a standard monofocal lens might give you clear distance vision. This is the lens covered by your insurance and is the only option for those who prefer not to pay out-of-pocket for an upgraded lens. However, in many cases, your vision may not be completely clear, requiring the full-time use of bifocal glasses.

Dr. Q’s perspective: “This is the lens of choice for patients who don’t care if they have to wear glasses or don’t have the resources or desire to invest in a premium lens upgrade.”

There is no additional fee for this lens.

Astigmatism Correcting Toric Lens

If you have significant astigmatism, routine cataract surgery with a standard monofocal lens won’t give you clear distance vision. To achieve this goal, it’s essential to address your astigmatism. This can be done by implanting a special astigmatism-correcting lens, known as a toric lens, during your surgery.

In most cases, a toric lens alone is sufficient to deliver clear distance vision. However, if your vision remains out of focus after placement of a toric lens, a laser vision correction procedure, such as PRK or LASIK, can be performed to enhance your clarity.

Dr. Q’s perspective: “Toric lenses are a popular choice for patients with astigmatism who desire clear distance vision because they offer excellent value. However, since toric lenses cannot be adjusted, if further fine-tuning of vision is required, a secondary procedure like PRK or LASIK will be necessary.”

Our toric lens package is priced at $1,900 per eye and includes a PRK or LASIK touch-up. If you have previously undergone RK, PRK, or LASIK, an additional charge of $500 will apply.

RxSight Light Adjustable Lens

The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only lens that can be adjusted inside of your eye after surgery. Adjustments are made in just one to two minutes by shining a special UV light on the lens. The ability to change the focus of your lens after surgery gives us unprecedented control over your final visual outcome and the highest confidence that you will achieve the best possible vision. Since we are able to correct astigmatism with light adjustments, the light adjustable lens is the most powerful and effective means of creating clear distance vision for patients with or without astigmatism.

Dr. Q’s perspective: “For the clearest possible distance vision after cataract surgery, I highly recommend the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens. It offers the unique ability to fine-tune your vision after surgery, which is particularly beneficial for patients who have previously undergone RK, PRK, or LASIK.”

The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens is $3,400 per eye.
